I thought it was amusing that during the Super Bowl XLI today, they aired a mention for GoDaddy with the slogan “GoDaddy: Make a .com with us”. There was also a commercial for GoDaddy which can be seen here.
Now this got me thinking, are companies starting to get so big that they don’t care how big their audience is? I mean people who watched the Super Bowl XLI today (and sadly saw the Bears lose to the Colts) has a huge diversity in age, profession and interest. Obviously there are a good amount of people who work with websites on the net, but that is only a small percentage compared to the entire audience that advertisement was shown to.
When companies get bigger, are they going to advertise their service in as many spots they can find and reap in as many customers as possible?

GoDaddy gets much more than the SuperBowl audience out of their ads. They’re now so notorious for their ads (and the ones that the networks won’t carry) that you won’t find a single news story about the Super Bowl and commercials that doesn’t mention them. So their audience is much bigger than “just” the SuperBowl, as scary as that is.
Of course not everyone who watched the Super Bowl works directly with websites, but there are people who will just want a domain name for their personal, family, or blog site that will now think to go to godaddy vs another registrar
Yeah but that isn’t exactly an internet literate group who would know how to manage a website.
But Nick’s statement on expanding the view is partially correct, I didn’t think of it and I’m part of what he’s saying
