Google had released their Google Video directory for quite a while, which contains a billion videos which are saved in the .gsv format which can only be played using Google Video Program. However, there is an easy way to get past this problem!
Simply download the movie and when it starts downloading the movie to your computer, simply press cancel. Afterwards, it will ask if you would like to download it manually. Download it manually and open the file using the NotePad Program.
Check near the top for a code similar to this:
# download the free Google Video Player from http://video.google.com/ gvp_version:1.1 url:http://vp.video.google.com/videodownload?version=0&secureurl=igA docid:4057591681481453187 duration:60092 title:Funny EDS Commercial - Cat Herding description:Funny EDS commercial about ranchers herding cats - just like project management.
You should also have Mozilla FireFox installed on your computer (Our Web Design looks much better when using Mozilla FireFox, as stated to the left), since they use a unique function which lets you download movies before you play them when given a direct URL. Internet Explorer works fine, but might not download movies when given a direct URL.
As you can see by clicking the above Video URL, you will be able to download movies using .avi format.
This proves that in a way, Google has .avi movies but they change the format so people can’t download the movie easily and play it on iPod’s and such. Another reason to promote their Google Video Player.
