Rustybrick just posted that he noticed a few unique AdWords Sponsored Results for certain terms in Google UK (not in the Google U.S. yet). They are the Click-To-Call Listings which has been anticipated from Google for some time now.
This service is believed to have launched 4 weeks ago (beginning of August 2006). One example which Rustybrick pointed out is Jet2 which brings up an advertisement for Holidays from Leeds from Directline Holidays with a small green phone icon next to it, like the below image (we put in the red arrow):

When you click on the advertisment, it gives something similar to a drop-down menu like below:

When I put in my Vonage VoIP Phone number (which is in the U.S.) I immediately received a phone call from Google (which was displayed in the Caller ID) from the following phone number:
144-870-300-8301
And I received a message which said they were forwarding my phone call (obviously to DirectLine Holidays). I hung up right after that.
So from the looks of it, Google would also have to provide the Google AdWords client a time-based advertisement which decides when to serve the ads for the businesses which don’t have 24/7 phone desk.
Hopefully it’ll come to the U.S. soon enough!

Google has just been ‘testing the water’ with this. It’s a shame they’ve not thrown more impressions at it to give a little more time for clickers to get used to it and advertisers to perfect their campaigns. It makes sense to me that until VOIP is dominant, click-to-call will produce a much lower eCPM.
