Google has offered $1 for every FireFox download a Google AdSense Publisher sent them. This has been a long tradition and useful for generating revenue for publishers as well as new FireFox users.
However, the new FireFox 2.0 was released a while back and this AdSense publisher asked Google when they would be able to refer FireFox 2.0 users and earn a dollar from it.
The response from Google was:
Thanks for writing in about the Firefox plus Google Toolbar referral button. We currently offer Firefox 1.5 in our referral download. We can’t yet say if or when we will offer Firefox 2.0, but I’m happy to pass along your comments to our engineering and product teams.
This is odd, could this indicate that Google could have installed a tracking on FireFox 1.5 which they could use to see if the user downloaded and installed the toolbar and they didn’t install this feature on FireFox 2.0 yet? Or could this be hinting towards an alliance which will soon end?

It could be they just want to wait and see how FF 2.0 are doing - fixing problems etc. FF are on the move and Google knows that so surely they wont just give up on an oppertunity to market themselves.
Probably, no way to be sure at the moment!
Firefox 2.0 still had some serious bugs, so maybe they are just waiting… I’m still using 1.5.0.8 in my Windows machine, and just installed FF 2.0 in my Linux box.
