It seems that Google is really determined to have everyone using gMail as their main E-Mail Service. Basically, they are rolling out a new feature for gMail which will let it function just like a POP3 E-Mail Box, which would make gMail your central E-Mail account where you can check your E-Mail on other accounts as well as send E-Mail using a secondary E-Mail Address, which is now known as the Mail Fetcher!
It is extremely easy to setup this feature in gMail:
It is that easy to setup. You don’t need to supply a password or POP3 details for the E-Mail Account. If you do, I think it can conduct the same features as Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird does! This feature definitely makes gMail superior to all other E-Mail providers, just like TechCrunch has been ranting about for a while.
Here is what Google has to say about their newly released service:
You can retrieve your mail (new and old) from up to five other email accounts and have them all in Gmail. Then you can even create a customized ’From:’ address, which lets you send messages from Gmail, but have them look like they were sent from another one of your email accounts.
Now I wonder if other E-Mail providers like Hotmail and Yahoo! would follow in gMail’s footsteps. They had the opportunity to develop this feature first, it is kind of shameful that a new competitor like gMail is already trumping well established E-Mail services like Hotmail and Yahoo!

You are mistaken,
you are saying that you dont have to give POP password or details and google (GOD according to you!!) will fetch the mails automatically? It is not at all possible. Go and read the google help page which you, yourself described..
You have to give the username and password as well as pop details for fetching mails.
ANd yes, what you have tested is, sending mails with From address of other account. For that, the procedure you mentioned is ok and that feature was give when gmail started.
Read what you write first.
hotmail and yahoo have had this for about 10 years.
