Well this definitely proved John Scott’s point, .edu and .gov links have finally been proven that they DO NOT get special recognition. Until now, it has been a big confusion, but now we have support from one person who you can trust!
Matt Cutts himself has stated that .edu and .gov websites do not recieve a boost in the Google SERP’s (Search Engine Results Page) as well as the fact that links from .edu and .gov websites do not recieve a boost as well! He has stated this fact in his latest video on Google Analytics - Lightning Round (which was posted on Modern SEO here). It is mostly a coincidence because .edu and .gov domain names usually have a higher Page Rank due to links, but not because of Google intervention.
