Chapter 1.1: SE’s Ranking your Sites

We’ll know exactly what SEO is, the purpose of SEO and a look at the different Search Engines, we can know move on to how Search Engines will rank your website.

All Search Engines will rank you on:

  1. Links to your website from other websites.
  2. Links to your website should be on a high ranked page
  3. Content of website

Now Google says that content is basically the only thing that matters and they only need 1 or 2 links to find you, links do make a huge difference.

In Google, all websites are ranked according to a “Page Rank” (PR) and if you downlod the following toolbar:

http://toolbar.google.com/

You can view the Public PR, meaning that this is the Page Rank of the website which is available to those with a Google Toolbar. However, it is believed that they have their own PR inside their own directory, which is not open to public use.

So basically, get a lot of outbound links to your website. Google will penalize you if you are using “duplicate content”, which will be explained in a different chapter.
