How many people do you talk to online? My guess is, if you’re anything like me, you couldn’t count it even if you used all your fingers and toes. We communicate daily with a vast number of people, and this presents us with marketing opportunities that are, quite literally, under our noses.
Face to Face
When you last released a product, how many of your friends did you tell about it? Did you tell family members? Chances are, if you’re into it, they’re into it. Your social group is what it is, because you share similar interests. So talk to these people about what you’re doing. But it’s not only the people you know in “real” life that count…
Forums
These are great places to meet people with interests akin to yours. So get talking on them. There are a few forums on which I myself am a regular poster, and you can bet your bottom dollar that when my current project goes live on April 1st, I’m going to tell everyone on those forums about it.
Chat Rooms
Chat rooms, when it comes down to it, are simply massively populated real time forums. So get on business chat rooms. Go on the chat rooms where your market is likely to be, and start talking to people. When they ask what you do (and it’ll come up), tell them about it, and about what you’re currently promoting or selling. Get people interested in YOU first, and they’ll flock to buy whatever you’re selling. And finally…
Conferences (as an attendee)
Go to events. Get out an meet people. Firstly conferences are just about the best places to learn more about whatever it is you do, and to pick ideas up from others, and secondly they’re the single best place to network. Go and find people at these meetings. Talk to the speakers. See what other people are doing. People go to these events expecting to buy things, so don’t disappoint them! Sell them something.
Conferences (as a speaker)
If you can, become a public speaker on whatever your chosen subject is. There is no single better way to get information out about what you do to a large audience. Tell people about what you’re doing. And if you can, I recommend taking John Childers Million Dollar Speaker Training.
Get talking, and promote what you do.
Pete
