Anyways, I did some decent SEO on a website and it ended up getting a TON of search engine traffic. This website is purely an affiliate website and uses an affiliate program through CJ.com and I’ve showed the stats for this month to the left.

I plan on writing a full report on how this website ended up taking off and EXACTLY what I did to get an extra $100 this month.

But in the meantime, I’m holding a small contest for the WickedFire Members by giving away a small amount of money ($15 via PayPal) to the first person that can guess which affiliate I used. If you aren’t a member, just spend a few minutes signing up. If you are a member, head on over to their thread and start guessing!

Now I think this is a bit silly, it feels as if though Google is taking over every aspect of the average man’s life. I can understand them dominating the advertising and search engine area of the internet, but a line should be drawn! Now they have released a new program entering into healthcare, Google Health, which allows you to input your details regarding your health and medication and get responses regarding diet and such.

It does seem to be a service that would benefit many people, but the problem lies with the fact that it is mostly automated responses from a computer, and not an actual physical analysis done by a doctor (one of the points stated by the U.S. Health Care System). Google responded by saying that people should benefit from as much information as they can, and this also solves the problem of having to move your medical history from one state to another. Furthermore, it seems that they are also getting support from the Bush administration since they support the push to electronically handling hospital/health records.

Here is a screenshot snagged from Blogoscoped:

I just thought this would be a great find for Google AdSense users, especially those that run websites in a language other than English. In fact, I saw an advertisement in Hindi in my gMail Account yesterday. I don’t know if it was a random coincidence or they somehow managed to get my ethnicity (even though I never displayed it on the internet).

Nevertheless, Search Engine Roundtable has posted up how you can change your primary language for your Google AdSense formats:

Log in to your account at https://www.google.com/adsense

Click the My Account tab

Click the Login Information [edit] link

Select a language from the Display Language drop-down list

Click Save Settings

A prime example of a website that should definitely use this, would be Deepika News. They are an unbelievably popular Indian news site, with tons of traffic each day. However, they are displaying English advertisements. Even though many Indians can read English, the CTR for these ads must be horrible. But, if it was in Hindi, the official language of India, more readers would click on the ads. Just goes to show what can be done to monetize your website if it’s in a different language.

I really thought this was an odd combination, since I would have never expected eBay to be even remotely interested in anything in the social bookmarking area. Nevertheless, it has happened yesterday and we can only see what eBay has in store for StumbleUpon.

According to the senior directory of eBay, Michael Buhr, they will keep the same management, but will incorporate some of their own staff (him for example) to work with the StumbleUpon team and enhance their experience, as well as incorporate them with eBay. Michael Buhr also commented:

StumbleUpon is a great fit within our goal of pioneering new communities based on commerce and sustained by trust. StumbleUpon’s downloadable toolbar provides an engaging and unique experience to its users, but it is the similarities in our approaches to the concept of community that make it such a compelling addition to eBay.

I’m guessing the obvious that eBay would probably use StumbleUpon to help users share auctions that they find interesting or unique.

Basically Revver is a video community, similar to YouTube, but they also display advertisements at the end of all their videos. The best part, is that they are also offering an affiliate program that pays you by PayPal to promote their videos by choosing a video to put on your site.

With the fact that they are offering an API, this would only make the deal better! I decided to take advantage of their API and create a whole website that displays nothing but their videos and my affiliate code: Vol3D. Just goes to show you how far you can get with a small amount of ingenuity!

This script will pull video codes from the Revver website and display them on your website with your affiliate code embedded into the code. You can choose which tags you would prefer to be displayed on your website as well! I am currently selling this script for $35 and if you are interested, feel free to contact me here.

Overall, I believe that having a W3C compliant website really couldn’t hurt. It would definitely hurt your website if a search engine couldn’t index your website correctly. Furthermore, it would annoy visitors using problematic browsers like Internet Explorer or Mozilla FireFox which read the code differently (FireFox reads codes more strict while Internet Explorer reads code loosely).

Most people think that well-established companies like eBay wouldn’t have disorganized pages in Search Engine Results Pages, but I guess this discovery by Aaron Wall can’t go unnoticed.

It seems that eBay has a huge amount of sub-domains, one for every category, search results and such. Well, having a huge amount of sub-domains for every category can lead even the strongest search engine awry. Google seems to have indexed numerous pages/auctions from different sub-domains for ‘titleist provx’ and displays all these results.

You can’t be sure if eBay did this on purpose or by accident, but this can lead to a lot more targeted search engine traffic to eBay when you think about it. A user might disregard the first eBay results in the SERPs but after seeing numerous listings, they are bound to check out a couple, and end up simply bidding on an item on eBay instead of purchasing one from another website found through the SERPs.

Similar to what this post says, I think this would be a huge problem for people selling/buying links in DigitalPoint’s bustling marketplace.

It seems that Google is going to start testing out ‘expiremental’ penalties for websites selling paid links that have been reported here. I personally don’t think Google should start putting webmasters up against each other, but I guess the snitches looking to hurt their competition will love this new addition.

It has been a long debated topic between social media marketing experts, who claim that digg users rarely enjoy websites with advertisements blatantly placed on the website. Therefore, the assumption was made that they do not click advertisements.

Well Chitika has run an analysis to actually prove this theory and provide a very nice explanation of their experiment. It seems that traffic from Search Engines like Google have 3 times as high as a CTR as Digg.

My personal guess on this would be that Digg Users come to a website to look at the content, while Google Users really have no idea where the content is located, and could easily mistake an advertisement for hyperlink (like Chitika ads).

A lot of talk has been going on inside the WebmasterRadio.fm Chatroom a while back about whether people should be allowed to copy/syndicate someone’s RSS Feed without permission (either given on the website or received from user). I decided to put in my thoughts and what I perceive publishing an RSS Feed would mean.

First of all, people use RSS Feeds to display the title/summary of new posts that are used in Vista Gadgets or FireFox Plugins. If a blog decides to publish an RSS Feed that displays the entire content of their post, they are basically asking for people to scrape their content.

However, if you are insistent on publishing an RSS Feed that displays all your information since you would prefer for people to scrape your content, include a link to your website at the bottom of all your posts in your RSS Feeds.

Google has entered the broadband wireless internet service and is offering free internet access via toilets! That’s right, Google plans on using the central sewer system of your water company to help you connect to their broadband service - Google TiSP (Toilet internet Service Provider).

This is only available in the U.S. and Canada at the moment (and is not available to people with septic sewers). Basically when you flush this fiber optic cable, it will find the nearest access node and one of the PHDs (Plumbing Hardware Dispatchers) will connect it. Their free service will contain contextual advertisements that will be trained to offer targetted ads for your needs.

You can check their installation instructions here, but if you would like a detailed diagram:

<strike>I should also mention that today is April 1st, 2007.</strike>

Google has added a new plus box in addition to the one-box displayed at the top of certain search results which promote their own services (Blogger, Google Images). This plus box is meant to provide more information for a specific listing related to stocks or map destinations. You can view an example of the plus box here for ‘Babbo Restaurant’.

I think it’s a good addition to their search results, especially since Google offers webmasters the chance to add a plus box for their website listings on Google. If you are a Local Business Owner on Google, you can simply submit your website information and your business location. Google will do the rest!

For those that don’t know what was so great about ShoemoneyAds, it offered a way for websites pertaining to a certain niche to display the latest eBay Ads, which would redirect them through the user’s CJ Affiliate Code.

Well now he has launched a new service - AuctionAds, which offers the same functionality as before. It has a more appealing design and the holes which were present in the old ShoemoneyAds have now been fixed. Many users have been complaining how their advertising box stops showing up at times and such.

Well AuctionAds has fixed those errors and here is a quote on what they plan to accomplish:

Will AuctionAds be the best solution for every site? No. It is a great choice for niche sites. Virtually evey niche site can be monetized with AuctionAds. It is a great solution for many webmasters who are looking to make money on narrow content.. How can a user know if AuctionAds is right for their site? Just like anything else you should test and let the numbers speak for themself.

It seems that DDN found out that the JavaScript code that is loaded with MyBlogLog tracks clicks made on your advertisements on Google AdSense as well as Yahoo! Publisher Network (YPN). He made a test page and placed a Google Advertisement on a blank page with the MyBlogLog code and recorded the commands being sent out by their JavaScript code. If you don’t understand, you can simply view his great video here.

It seems that the SEO industry is really grabbing the attention of everyone on the web. Now more and more people are learning about Search Engine Optimization and creating companies which offer Search Placement services (a few are even advertising on the blog). Well I stumbled upon a new thread on DigitalPoint where a member was offering his SEO services for free, as long as members leave him feedback that he can reference for future SEO clients.

I decided to give the guy a shot at one of my websites, Sixty6 Arcade, to rank for Free Online Flash Games, which is currently ranking in Google at 266. I created an account with DigitalPoint Keyword Tracking Tools and so far I haven’t broken the 200 mark. It’s been a week, and I’m supposed to receive results this following month. If he can get me in the top 25, I’ll be publishing his contact details for anyone else interested in paid SEO Services.

Google has definitely become a part of everyone’s lives - internet savvy and computer illeterate users use Google on at least a weekly, if not daily basis. However, many people use Google as a reference engine to check the background of someone’s history on the web. A documentary movie has now been created which revolves around this concept - Google Me: The Movie.

Jim Killeen entered his name into Google to see what kind of results would come up. Little did he know that there were numerous other Jim Killeens in the world which ranged from a priest to someone who starved himself for a cause. This movie is basically a documentary of one Jim Killeen going out to meet with others who share his name.

You can watch the trailer here.

I thought it was amusing that during the Super Bowl XLI today, they aired a mention for GoDaddy with the slogan “GoDaddy: Make a .com with us”. There was also a commercial for GoDaddy which can be seen here.

Now this got me thinking, are companies starting to get so big that they don’t care how big their audience is? I mean people who watched the Super Bowl XLI today (and sadly saw the Bears lose to the Colts) has a huge diversity in age, profession and interest. Obviously there are a good amount of people who work with websites on the net, but that is only a small percentage compared to the entire audience that advertisement was shown to.

When companies get bigger, are they going to advertise their service in as many spots they can find and reap in as many customers as possible?

Well every SEO is outraged with Wikipedia placing nofollow tags on all outbound links, in fear of the great amount of spam they would receive from the GlobalWarming Awareness2007 SEO Contest.

Most people are looking at the negative side of this. However, me being the optimist I am, am happy because I don’t have any Wikipedia pages sending me traffic.

Nevertheless, I know that my competitors use Wikipedia pages to give them some link love. Well if you want to be a cruel SEO, you can place nofollow tags on their URL’s simply by updating the page. This means that existing links do not have a nofollow tag unless they are updated!

So I was listening to Shoemoney’s Net Income show earlier this week and Shoemoney did ask him what users should do if a publisher is banned from Google AdSense.

Brian Axe: We actually have a very thorough public appeals process, if a publisher feels they were improperly banned from AdSense.

He also mentioned that if publishers notify them of suspicous activity first, Google would reward them by looking into the account and most of the people who look at the appeals have to use their “personal judgement”. I got a reply saying that Google AdSense didn’t like my arcade, so I don’t know how that’s good judgement.

Now this really pissed me off, since I sent them an E-Mail telling them of suspicous activity on my AdSense account. I couldn’t explain it, but the fact that I notified them first should have been taken into account. So basically, they rewarded my good will by banning me from their AdSense program.

I stopped listening to the show since I bet that Brian would simply start pulling lies out of his ass like that one. Feel free to listen to it if you want.

I spent a while debating on what the 3 letters (A, G & S) should stand for and I came up with:
A Glimpse Since 2006

The point of the website is to take in a maximum of 250 links each year and keep them displayed on the main page until the end of the year. Then the links are archived and the main page is cleared out for the new year.

I will be building up backlinks over the year, but if you want to help, please go over and buy a PR4 link for $8.00! There are options to make your link stand out as well by using bold, italics and choosing a color.

I just thought it was amusing how MaxBounty is defending themselves against Shoemoney’s blog post claiming MaxBounty Sucks. I’ve been following the thread on EarnersForum where Shoemoney makes an appearance to rant against MaxBounty’s owner.

The thread basically consists of Shoemoney making a suave appearance on page 2 claiming:

as i said at dp if maxbounty will give me permission to release all data I have on them and not hold me liable I will. Can end this pretty quick.

The owner of Maxbounty does come up with a ton of firepower and defends easily. Most people will automatically claim that MaxBounty wins the argument, but most people forgot the fact that he isn’t saying anything unless he receives a legal document saying he cannot be held liable.

A new website has risen and they plan on holding an SEO Contest on a yearly basis - SEO World Championship. I have already mentioned their website before, but the keywords for the 2007 SEO Contest has been announced earlier this week.

The keywords are - “globalwarming awareness2007”. These keywords were chosen to help others understand & be educated about the global warming issues.

I won’t be participating in any more SEO Contests, but a friend of mine is, so take a look at his globalwarming awareness2007 site.

There have been many different threads started on various forums over the topic of which is more important - content or links? Of course it would play into which perspective you’re looking the question at.

If you simply want a good ranking in Search Engines and get a good amount of traffic, you would choose links. If you want quality readers who like you for your content, you would choose to create good content. Personally, I choose both of these aspects to be important to the development of a website and treat them with equal attention. Nevertheless, I believe that building links is much easier than writing quality content.
