Scary stuff, but I remember thinking years ago that more and more domains on the internet would charge $$$ to visit. Fortunately the "free" market won out because demand was so high and paying advertises were plentiful.

Most of the people just make the PR a base, but honestly I still couldn't figure out this mystery. One of my site got PR2 just a month after its' launch when it had only 5 linkbacks, and a very general and limited content. If PR means the importance of that page to google, i'm not sure what are the bases for that importance. I, however, rely much on Google backlinks rather than PR, but do consider PR as well.

I'm not sure what ultimate effect will be there for the removal of PR bar, probably many will start considering other factors instead of just PR.

People give too much credit to PR, thinking that a high PR describes a good site, which is not always true. A good content, links from quality and trusted sites are what should matter.

It's true that PR from Google toolbar shows me 2-3 months old data. I could recheck the PR of a site if we doubt the button, but most of the time I trust it. The data do not change very fast - not in my sites case at least.

But in the same time, PR tells me how important a page is for Google. So if I do not count PR... how I will realize what is important for Google?

From what i have read about the issue, i dont think its illegal. Only if you deface the bill where one cannot use it again then its illegal, unless it is a coin or such that you are selling as a novilty. You cant deface a coin and try to pass it off as another without letting people know its a fake.
As for the bills, i add my dating website to all the 100 dollar bills i have.

It's nice to see the volume of traffic from Stumble Upon. I'm learning that a page can get a fair amount of traffic after the initial surge. An older post got a few stumbles and my referrals increased exponentially.

I wonder if anyone can come in at the last minute with a sudden surge through the ranks?

Yeah but that isn't exactly an internet literate group who would know how to manage a website.

But Nick's statement on expanding the view is partially correct, I didn't think of it and I'm part of what he's saying :D

Of course not everyone who watched the Super Bowl works directly with websites, but there are people who will just want a domain name for their personal, family, or blog site that will now think to go to godaddy vs another registrar

GoDaddy gets much more than the SuperBowl audience out of their ads. They're now so notorious for their ads (and the ones that the networks won't carry) that you won't find a single news story about the Super Bowl and commercials that doesn't mention them. So their audience is much bigger than "just" the SuperBowl, as scary as that is.

Google has just been 'testing the water' with this. It's a shame they've not thrown more impressions at it to give a little more time for clickers to get used to it and advertisers to perfect their campaigns. It makes sense to me that until VOIP is dominant, click-to-call will produce a much lower eCPM.

It's pretty sad that you would even suggest that kind of black-hat tactics. Wikipedia is a great resource and does not just exist for SEO wars.

The value of a link on Wikipedia goes far beyond just another link for SEO purposes. It's about good marketing techniques and making sure people can find you at relevant contact points.

Yeah, I got banned from Adsense too. Got an email telling me that I had "invalid clicks". I appealed, asking for them to explain what these "invalid clicks" were, so if indeed they exist, I can do something about it. Google sent back a form letter saying they exist, and I'm banned, and thats that.

Thorough public appeals process my ass.

If Google has found an automated (algorithmic) way to solve this problem, it must involve watching the number of links that get added over time. If an "unnatural" pattern occurs -- gazillions of links with the same anchor text appearing in a short space of time -- they treat this as a Googlebomb.

Well that was a definitely an idiotic thing to do. If you found an exploit in a well known software like phpBB or WordPress in this case, you should report it to the script creators and after the problem is fixed you can take credit for finding the exploit..

This was a great post. I was trying to figure out why my blog shows up in the search engines way more than my website does. Now in hindsite, I'm glad I started a blog for my site. This way what don't come up on the site will for the blog and they can link to my site from the blog. Good info.

'matter of time' nope the spam is allready going strong.

MyBlogLog has an interesting dynamic between constraints and freedom, i.e. there is only so much you can hack about the actual MBL screens and views - vs. on your own sites you can do what you like.

My bet is this dynamic will help MBL (hopefully) facilitate organic and user maintained ways of dealing with the spam issues.

I wonder if Yahoo will want to introduce advertizing to menetize MBL or leave that on the Yahhoo interface.
Will they do a lot of modification to MBL?

Hey Sixty6,
Thanks for the mention and keep up the good work!

You're doing the right thing in making posts and involving others. That's the personal way to get people to visit and "sample" your writing etc.

I'll link back to you on my <a href="http://www.express-advertising.com/blog.html" title="advertising blog" rel="nofollow"> blog</a>.

You are mistaken,

you are saying that you dont have to give POP password or details and google (GOD according to you!!) will fetch the mails automatically? It is not at all possible. Go and read the google help page which you, yourself described..

You have to give the username and password as well as pop details for fetching mails.

ANd yes, what you have tested is, sending mails with From address of other account. For that, the procedure you mentioned is ok and that feature was give when gmail started.

Read what you write first.

<blockquote>None of these listings explain that in the English language “google” is a number with a hundred zeros after it.
</blockquote>

If you search for the actual word that google used to come up with their name: "googol" - you'll see the results are much different.

I just installed it on my Nokia 6680 and all my contacts, calendar and emails started to come in.
First I was quit skeptical since I had bad experience with such free products.
But this emoze really works and do the job and even better I don't have to pay a single penny for the service.
To emoze guys keep on with this good attitude of contribution to the community.

Lets hope it does sell and the new owners will instill some fairness in their moderators and some feedback when banned.

Those who opposed digg spam were banned along with the spammers. The only way to stay in there was to shut up. Not a great business model.

Gambling Affiliates turn to Dating

Obviously Gambling has been a very lucrative business for online gambling and with recent bans throughout the online Gambling industry. Affiliates, who have been making their fortunes gambling, have been looking in other directions to find a source of business equally lucrative to substitute as an alternative.

Robert Fathers, the CEO of World Dating Partners, the largest social networking dating company worldwide says, “their has been an incredible upsurge with affiliates scrambling to own their own dating site with us, in order to equal the revenue that they used to earn in the gambling industry,” Further. “We have seen an incredible increase of over 100% in registrations with online gambling affiliates joining our system”.

The expertise that they bring to the online dating and adult dating industry is very welcome and compete in a way that is making many experienced dating affiliates look tame in comparison.

The dating industry has had its fair share of regulations imposed on the industry itself and sympathises with their predicament and we do all we can to help accommodate them into their new role in dating. In fact we are finding that on average ex-gambling affiliates are marking up over 50% more on average per month with their more diverse forms of marketing techniques and are finding extra benefits not seem before in their past with the benefits of recurring payments.

We hope to see further significant increases in new partners to www.world-dating-partners.com as word gets around and hope that we can give them the support in a new industry. World Dating Partners have Partner earning over $3 million a year in the past and are quite confident that our new friends will pop that figure as soon as they get into the swing of how the dating industry works.

Comment on $75,000/year Domain Renewal Fees? by Robert McCulloch

Domain names are more important for SEO than ever today (October 05, 2006). The reason is that search engines have had to discount more and more on-page factors due to webmasters and their SEO efforts to get top ranking.

With less factors to rank webpages with, search engines are looking for other things to base a website rank in their search results. In-bound links were what made Google what it is today, but even they are discounted now due to webmasters linking to everything they can find to increase their PageRank. But that is another story.

Domain names are the one on-page factor that is hard to cheat on. After all, how many top level domains can a site have?

MSN understands this and ranks a website with a keyword phrase within the domain name well ahead of other sites. For example, I registered a domain name (american-pitbulls.us) for a pitbull site and setup a blog about six months ago. Three months later I did a search on MSN for 'american pitbulls' and my blog came up #1! (Page 1 of 70,571 results)

Keep these factors in mind... The site had:

No PageRank
A new domain name, 3 months old then
No links
No SEO - a WordPress Blog

The blog is still at #1 on MSN today ahead of all 70k sites. Feel free to check yourself, AdSense...

http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?q=american+pitbulls&FORM=MSNH

The full url is http://american-pitbulls.us/wp

I'm getting traffic from Google as well now. Anyway, you can see how important the domain name is in ranking well in MSN. Even at third in the search engine wars, MSN can push out a lot of traffic.

Wow - I've been having the same issue with my blog. Unfortunately, despite creating a variety of sport tickets, backlinks, etc. etc, no response even two months after the problem originally began.

I should try repling to my tickets, putting more pressure on them...

Tim, I apologize for parsing the first sentence of your 2nd paragraph wrong, but I think it's a good example of the point I'm about to make.

Filtering information on the internet is not at all easy. I use a program at home called <a href="http://www.dansguardian.org" rel="nofollow">DansGuardian</a>, and it regularly filters out information that isn't harmful. The most common case is when I am looking for information on Youth Ministry (My current occupation), and a relevant site has the word "teen" in it too much. One cannot look at only words, and determine the meaning behind it.

In your 2nd paragraph, it could be read as you watching animals having sex with your children. That's much more disturbing than you meant it. But through context, I determined which meaning it is. Unfortunately, there are still situations where it absolutely requires a human to determine context. The multitude of combinations of words, as well as the misspelling of words and different forms of the same words make it nearly impossible to sort it out. I think Google does a great job of it, most of the time. But still, some stuff slips through, and some stuff gets misplaced.

Another analogy is that it is like airport security. Someone decided to try to smuggle a bomb on a plane in their shoes, so the security people try to take away that vector by having people take their shoes off. More recently, they have eliminated liquids as a vector. These isolated cases may have been weaknesses, but they are part of a larger screening problem.

For Google, it seems that these topics are not vectors that they have considered before. They will almost certainly block these ones, then try to fix their algorithm to catch it. I doubt that it will ever be perfect.

Just a note, but ChaCha is in an Alpha Experimental stage and has a laundry list of bugs/kinks to work out to make the service much smoother, so please be patient with this initial launch and know that this search engine REALLY is going to be great.

You shouldn't have to wait more then a couple minutes tops to receive some kind of response. If you received no response by then, the session you were in was most likely dropped (not by the guide, but by the servers) and you never received a notification the session has ended. Indicators like this are areas we are working on to make the experience much more user friendly so you don't sit there twiddling your thumbs.

Thanks!

John: although I've seen multiple PPPers replace AdSense with PPP, I don't think they have to be mutually exclusive. There are plenty of PPPers doing both, just making significantly more with PPP than AdSense.

Best of luck in however you choose to pay the bills...

Why do people always want to surrender their rights and responsibilities of being an active parent? There is no way google can fix this nor should they. Parents HAVE to take responsibility for the actions, education and responses their children should have to such information. When we educate we not only teach them facts, or how to learn, but we teach them how to interact with the environment within which they must function.

Examples: Watching animals have sex with your children and having them ask, "Daddy, what are they doing?" Hearing public arguments with very inappropriate and unpleasant language. Or perhaps the most common is when you lose your cool as a parent and either verbally or physically abuse your child and then have to explain YOUR behavior.

Jamie that is true and that brings me back to my first point:

Schools always use Google to help find research, but even if they won't use Google Suggest, kids will find out, think it's great and start using it.

Before this happens, Google Suggest should fix this, but if they do, there is no point in the program since it is supposed to display suggestions based on the greater amount of what people search.
