WordPress Security Update Released - 2.0.7

Monday 15 January 2007 @ 9:54 pm

It seems that even though I just upgraded yesterday with the release WordPress, the hacker who went around hacking SEO Blogs had discovered an exploit in WordPress. They immediately rolled out a new version and I suggest you upgrade to their latest version, 2.0.7: http://wordpress.org/download/

Blogging Questions

Monday 15 January 2007 @ 12:52 pm

Just a couple of questions asked by a forum member which I thought are common questions that the average person would ask:

First question: Do the search engines favor blogs over regular websites?

Second question: Do the search engines favor Wordpress.com over other blogging softwares?

Lastly: Can anyone make a recommendation on other blogging softwares available for good SEO results?

The Power of Akismet

Sunday 14 January 2007 @ 11:57 pm

Akismet is a useful tool to any WordPress Blog Owner who has to deal with hundreds of spam comments each day. I have been using it for a while and of course the occasional spammers do get through, but that’s maybe once a week - not something to get me annoyed easily.

To show my love for Akismet, I installed the Akismet Spam Comment Plugin which is displayed at the bottom of my center sidebar and so far Akismet has protected me from 16,746 spam comments!

I also upgraded Modern SEO News to WordPress 2.0.6 since the plugin requires WordPress v2.0.5 if you want to display the Akismet button like I did.

Light Posting

Saturday 30 December 2006 @ 10:47 am

Well like most other internet marketing specialists who work on the internet, it’s nice to take a break whenever you want. So I was enjoying most of last week by spending time with my family and enjoying the winter season while I can. I also caught up on some of my gaming needs and stopped by the library to check out a few books.

I’m back to posting and it looks like there are a couple of new important stories I’ll have to blog about today!

PayPerPost Features

Sunday 24 December 2006 @ 3:45 pm

So I’ve been starting a ton of blogs all around and most aren’t earning much from Pay-Per-Click services like Chitika. So I’ve been using blog marketing services like PayPerPost on the blogs for the last 2 months. I have quite a lot to say about them though!

PayPerPost Requires Disclosure Policy

Sunday 24 December 2006 @ 11:09 am

I knew it was only a matter of time before PayPerPost asked for a Disclosure Policy to be present on all blogs in their marketplace.

I received an E-Mail nearly 6 days ago from PayPerPost which said:

ORLANDO, FL – PayPerPost, the leading marketplace connecting marketers with bloggers, videographers, photographers, podcasters and social networks, announced the second phase of its full disclosure model, whereby participating Consumer Content Creators are required to disclose their sponsored status. The new Terms of Service, effective today, will bring greater transparency to the growing Consumer Generated Advertising industry.

Blog Tagged

Saturday 23 December 2006 @ 1:11 pm

There has been a ton of blog tag fever going around, since everyone is now creating chain posts which end up blogging someone else! There is even a Blog Tag Tree done by Solo SEO, which was mentioned on SEO Rockstars, and is done completely by hand! I’ve been blog tagged by LittleAmerica first, so I guess I’ll disclose 5 things that others might not know about me:

  1. I’m a simple teenager out on the net building websites and trying to make some money!
  2. I jump from each field to a new one - eBay to Web Hosting to Reseller Web Hosting to Domain Names to Search Engine Optimization to Blogging back to Domains and Web Hosting to Forum Communities and back to Blogging; so I’m a mixed talent of most net qualities, but too lazy to stick to one field!
  3. I work as a freelancer to get some spare change to keep pushing up my websites, since my revenue is a little bit over to pay the monthly server bill.
  4. I love hanging out on forums and watching my post count increase, as well as my reputation at times!
  5. I’m an addictive gamer when I find time!

Now I’ll go ahead and blog tag five other people to put up a post telling 5 secrets they haven’t told others: AdMan, Read/Write Web, GrayWolf, Mashable and Ted at PayPerPost.

PayPerPost Blog

Saturday 23 December 2006 @ 1:10 pm

I was just browsing through the internet as usual and came across the PayPerPost Blog. It does have a great design which blends in with the main website. They also have one great MyBlogLog Community as well (MyBlogLog is starting to determine the reading communities of today!), so I decided to join their community and even added the PayPerPost blog to my blog roll.

MyBlogLog Registration Loophole

Saturday 23 December 2006 @ 12:17 pm

A lot of blogs have started using MyBlogLog and placing their community widget on their blogs (I’ve placed mine on the center sidebar). A community like MyBlogLog should have a verification method like Technorati does, to make sure that authors of blogs are who they say they are. Due to a lack of verification, a couple of problems have risen.

Don’t have an HP Camera to be a Paparazzi

Friday 22 December 2006 @ 2:23 pm

I heard that Hewlett Packard (HP) has some of the greatest 6 Megapixel Digital Cameras out there. I’ve never been a big fan of taking pictures, but I noticed a couple of SEO Specialists (mostly Shoemoney’s Image Gallery) who took a ton of pictures by carrying a camera to all the SES Conferences and taking pictures of key players like:

  • Dave Naylor
  • Matt Cutts
  • Greg Boser
  • Darin Baben
  • Shawn Hogan
  • Imaging how much traffic you would get from DigitalPoint (since Shawn Hogan is the owner of the forums) for taking a picture like this: Goofy Shawn Hogan

    Modern SEO News PDA Compatible

    Friday 22 December 2006 @ 10:27 am

I found another great WordPress plugin through Marketing Pilgrim at Imthiaz’s Blog - WordPress PDA Plugin which modifies how your WordPress weblog is displayed to users who visit your website using a PDA or Mobile Browser.

It is pretty simple to install, all you need to do is upload the file and activate it in your WordPress Admin Control Panel.

I used the Opera Mini Browser Simulator (It is a JAVA Applet and takes a while to load) to take a look at how Modern SEO News would look like on PDA’s from now on!

    DiggClick WordPress Plugin

    Friday 22 December 2006 @ 10:10 am

A lot of users place a small Digg button at the bottom of their posts, hoping that some gracious visitor will come by and submit their blog post to Digg. I have been looking for a decent WordPress plugin which will offer a Digg Submission button if it hasn’t been submitted and a Digg button with a Digg It and the number of Diggs if it already has been dugg! I have finally found the plugin that I installed on Modern SEO News!
