Just a couple of questions asked by a forum member which I thought are common questions that the average person would ask:
First question: Do the search engines favor blogs over regular websites?
Second question: Do the search engines favor Wordpress.com over other blogging softwares?
Lastly: Can anyone make a recommendation on other blogging softwares available for good SEO results?
Well the first question is a tricky one. Search Engines don’t necessarily prefer blogs over regular websites, but most blogs receive a small advantage when it comes to it’s SEO status. This is because blogs receive a good amount of links much easier due to networks like Technorati or MyBlogLog. In a way, blogs work kind of like a link bait, but search engines don’t prefer blogs JUST because it’s a blog.
Regarding the preference of WordPress.com blogs over regular websites, the answer is no. However, like I said above, blogs are great for link bait and that affects their search engine ranking. MSN might be a search engine which likes WordPress.com Blogs, kind of like how they prefer BlogSpot blogs, but I’m not 100% sure about it. I have heard of a few WordPress.com blogs sandboxed on Google.
Finally I would suggest that you use WordPress as your blogging software because it is pretty flexible to use and it has a good amount of themes and a great amount of plugins. More and more designers and coders are skilled in creating themes and plugins for WordPress than other blogging software.

This was a great post. I was trying to figure out why my blog shows up in the search engines way more than my website does. Now in hindsite, I’m glad I started a blog for my site. This way what don’t come up on the site will for the blog and they can link to my site from the blog. Good info.
